EU news: the European Commission investigates Booking.com

The European Commission has opened proceedings under the Digital Services Act (DSA) to examine how Booking.com combats fraudulent listings and phishing scams, and how transparent its paid search placements are. No infringement has been established.

Under the Digital Services Act, very large online platforms must assess and reduce systemic risks such as fraud, and must make clear to users when content or rankings are paid for. The Commission's proceedings examine whether Booking.com meets these obligations. Opening proceedings does not mean a breach has been found.

For travellers, the topic is practical: fake listings and phishing messages can cost real money, and paid placements can shape which stays appear first.

At BookOnGoodTerms.com we support transparency and fair competition: communication stays on the platform, guests pay 0% booking fees, and hosts pay a simple standard commission of 5%. Nothing hidden.
